Join Rachel Tribout, illustrator of Cheer Up, Blobfish! and specialist art teacher, Kasia Janczewski from The Make Mistakes School of Art for a book launch and art workshop that celebrates a much misunderstood sea creature, difference, creativity and emotional expression.
Rachel and Kasia will read from the joyously illustrated, Cheer Up Blobfish! by Julie Murphy and then guide little artists to create a mixed media blobfish portrait. Kids will learn how to express emotion through the colour and design of their blobfish using a range of painting and sculpture techniques.
We will explore facts about blobfish, and thoughts about difference and emotion, while discovering the joy of learning through ‘making mistakes’. Everyone will leave with a blobfish portrait, copy of the book and their heart brimming with creativity!
Cheer up, Blobfish! by Julie Murphy, illustrated by Rachel Tribout
It's the Festival of Fish – the biggest party of the year! Everyone seems to be having a great time … except for Blobfish. The clownfish tells some funny gags, the sawfish does magic tricks and the dolphin swims loop-the-loops, but no-one can make Blobfish happy.
Or can they?
Featuring energetic rhyme, joyful illustrations and some fascinating blobfish facts, Cheer Up, Blobfish! is a celebration of difference that stars one VERY misunderstood sea creature.

About Kasia Janczewski
Kasia Janczewski is a specialist art teacher and local parent who runs The Make Mistakes School of Art. The approach of her school rests upon the belief that every child is an artist with their own unique perspective. Art classes are designed so that children can express that perspective through different visual mediums. The focus of learning is on the creative process of art making through guided experimentation. Children are encouraged to ‘make mistakes’ in a safe and supportive environment so they can explore their own ideas, imagination and approaches to creating art. Kasia is a passionate advocate for the joy, discovery, resilience, connection and inclusivity that can be offered through high quality visual art education. She has worked as a high school art and history teacher and recently managed a local independent children’s bookshop. Kasia holds a Master of Teaching from Griffith University and BFA (Visual Arts) with Honours from QUT. She is a registered teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers and has a valid Blue Card. She is also the mother of 7 year old twins, one of which has intellectual and physical disabilities which informs the inclusivity of her practice as an educator.
