Come and join popular and best-selling authors, Zanni Louise and Deborah Abela to launch their brand new novels, Cora Seen and Heard and The Kindness Project. Both books are warm, heartfelt and filled with gorgeous moments as their characters navigate the wonderful but sometimes tricky world of being a kid.
About the authors:
Deborah Abela trained as a teacher before becoming writer/producer of a national children’s TV show at Network TEN. She then went to Africa where she was harassed by monkeys, got caught in a desert sandstorm and was thrown in jail twice. Since then, she’s become an internationally published and awarded author of 30 books including her climate change trilogy, Grimsdon, New City and Final Storm. The Stupendously Spectacular Spelling Bee and The Most Marvellous Spelling Bee Mystery were inspired by her stupendously inspiring grade 4 teacher, Miss Gray. Her CBCA Notable The Book of Wondrous Possibilities, is her love letter to books, booksellers and librarians and how they save us when we feel lost. Her latest novel is The Kindness Project, where four kids overcome their differences and try to change the world. Based in Byron hinterland, Zanni Louise is an internationally published author. Her latest release, Cora Seen and Heard (Walker Books) is a contemporary mystery for 12-year-olds set in an abandoned theatre in Tasmania. Since 2015, local author Zanni Louise has written over 40 bestselling and internationally published books for kids and teens. Her books explore a vast range of themes, often circling back to community, friendship and kindness. Her picture books including the bestselling Human-Kind series have been recognised by prominent awards, including the Children’s Book Council of Australia, Speech Pathology Awards, Educational Publishing Awards, White Raven’s International Catalogue of Children’s Books, Panda Awards, Adaptable and the Australian Book Design Awards. Cora Seen and Heard is set in an abandoned theatre in rural Tasmania, Cora Seen and Heard is a mystery about a twelve-year-old's personality renovation project and what happens when we embrace all parts of ourselves — burst pipes, fake façades and all. Shy, library-lurking Cora Lane moves to a small town, where her parents have bought an old theatre to renovate. After discovering the secret letters of a famous local performer, Cora writes back, revealing her most embarrassing secrets and worries to her secret imaginary penpal. The Kindness Project is a middle grade verse novel about about four kids who are given a class project to make the world a better place. They band together when one of them needs their help and create the most magnificent kindness project of all.
